Movie marketing

Helping a film stand out

Movie marketing is the set of methods used to publicise a film before and after its premiere. The goals are to create excitement, draw audiences and maximise box-office receipts or streaming views, combining traditional and digital strategies.

Teasers and trailers give a glimpse of the film; well-planned social media builds a community of fans; influencer partnerships and cross-promotions widen exposure; and merchandise, events and premieres support the brand as a whole. It is a mix of audience engagement, strategic planning and invention.

Distribution

From final cut to box-office report

Entity One Entertainment Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is a film distribution company, and one of the largest and most renowned distributors of feature films in India. This is how a release travels from the edit suite to the box-office report.

  1. Production and post-production

The film is made through pre-production, shooting and post-production: editing, sound design, visual effects and everything else that shapes the final cut.

  2. Distribution rights

Once the film is ready, its distribution rights are settled: theatrical, streaming, Blu-ray, television or a combination of these.

  3. Film festivals

Some filmmakers show their films at international festivals, where a good reception can attract distributors and widen distribution.

  4. Distribution agreements

Filmmakers or production companies negotiate agreements with distributors or studios that set out the terms, conditions and rights.

  5. Theatrical release

Coordinating with theatres, scheduling screenings and promoting the film to bring audiences in.

  6. Home entertainment

Release for home viewing on Blu-ray or digital platforms, through retailers, online platforms and rental services.

  7. Streaming services

Licensing the film to platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.

  8. Television broadcast

Distribution through television networks and cable channels, both free-to-air and pay-TV.

  9. Marketing and promotion

Distributors market the film to its target audience with trailers, posters, social media campaigns and other material.

  10. International distribution

For global releases, the film is distributed across different markets, languages and cultural considerations.

  11. Box-office reporting

Theatrical box-office numbers are reported, and revenue is shared between distributor and production team as agreed.

  12. Post-release

After the initial release, a film may keep being distributed over time through TV reruns, streaming platforms and home-entertainment sales.
